FAQ WHAT IS SOUL PURPOSE? WHAT IS SOUL PURPOSE? – It is a church wide initiative to help people in the area of spiritual formation. The goal of Soul Purpose: is to establish men and women in the Christian faith, to involve them in authentic community, to have their lives transformed, to equip them to serve in the church and impact their world for Christ. You will be in a small group with a few 3-12 other people that will meet on a weekly basis for 2 hours with the ultimate goal of completing the four modules. (Engaging with God, Engaging with God’s People, Engaging with the Community and Engaging with the World.) WHAT DOES SOUL PURPOSE COVER? - There are four modules that you will be going through and they are: Engaging with God – What is a disciple of Jesus, How does spiritual formation happen, an introduction to various spiritual disciplines that help a person walk with Jesus. Engaging with God’s People – This is an introduction to the corporate disciplines and what it means to be the Body of Christ. These disciplines include such things as how to pray for others, encourage one-another, forgive one-another and love one-another. The module ends with helping each participant find their role in the church. Engaging with the Community – This module examines what it means for every follower of Jesus to be the ‘hands and feet’ of Jesus in the community in which they live. They will be equipped to visually and verbally share the good news of the Kingdom. The second half of the module involves studying eight major doctrines of the Faith. Engaging with the World – Here the participants will be exposed to the world that God died for and desires us be involved with. You will examine what it means to be a World-Class Christian. The final few weeks will be used to launch you into ministry. WHY SHOULD I GO THROUGH SOUL PURPOSE? - Soul Purpose is designed to put people in a place where they can be touched, taught and transformed by God. It will help you to care for and grow your soul, so that you might find satisfaction in God. Your life purpose will be crystallized and energized to live for reason God created you. The greatest fear that people have today, is not death, but living a life with no purpose. Soul Purpose will help you discover God’s purpose for your life and to live it out. HOW MUCH HOMEWORK IS THERE EACH WEEK? – There will be approximately 2 hours of homework each week. This will include, the memorization of scripture, bible study, some outside reading, an experiential exercise and some reflection time. The assignments are divided up over 5 days to help you budget your time and to get into the practice of being with God on a regular basis. I TRAVEL A LOT, HOW DOES IT WORK IF I AM GONE? – Every person is going to miss a few times during the course of a module due to vacations, sickness or travel for business. The rule of thumb we like to go by, is if you know you are going to miss more then 3X during the course of a 12 week module, we would suggest you do Soul Purpose at another time when your schedule is freer. The weeks you are gone, it would be important to still do your work and to check in with one of the group members to let them know how they can pray for you. HOW IS SOUL PURPOSE DIFFERENT THAN TOP GUN BASIC TRAINING AND DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING? - After two years of pilot groups we have had a number of men that had gone through BT and DT now go through Soul Purpose and they have given us very positive feedback. The main differences are: BT was more informational in nature, while SP is more transformational. In SP there is more emphasis on community and the groups will be staying together. SP is more experiencial in nature and not just filling our minds with more information. SP is much more up to date with its material. There are over 40 different authors that people will be exposed to in SP. IF I HAVE GONE THROUGH BASIC TRAINING AND DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING, SHOULD I GO THROUGH SOUL PURPOSE AS WELL? - Most definitely for a couple of reasons. First, we always need to be growing and having Christ formed in us. You need the other people around you to help that process. Just because you have a certificate of completing BT and DT does not mean you are done. Becoming like Christ is a life long process and SP will help that process. Second, you need community. Too many of us are living in isolation and need to experience authentic community and SP will provide that. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THROUGH THE 4 MODULES? The minimum amount of time to complete the 4 modules is 2 years. Some groups decide to expand on a topic or do further study and may take longer. A major difference between SP and BT is that there is no rush to get through it. If a second week is needed to cover a topic that is fine. If you want to study something else between modules that is fine. There is a great deal of flexibility in the process. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The cost of the workbook for each module is $25. Additional outside reading books will cost up to $25 per module. WHO DO I GO THROUGH SOUL PURPOSE WITH? You can be individually assigned to a new group or your existing group can decide to register for the program as a group. If you have some friends that you want to go through with, feel free to register together. CAN OUR EXISTING GROUP GO THROUGH SOUL PURPOSE? Most definitely. It will be important for everyone in your group to understand the cost involved time wise. There have been a couple of situations where some groups started and not everyone was committed to it or did not understand what it would take. Some people are looking for just a fellowship group and not really growing. ARE THERE ANY OUTSIDE COMMITMENTS REQUIRED? Besides the homework each week, the group will be choosing one service project each module to do as a group. We encourage the groups that are new to do a social event within the first couple of weeks to allow the spouses to get to know the group members and to hear what SP is all about.
